2020 Beaujolais Nouveau Label Contest Winners

Grand Prize Winner:

Maeve Crogan

Russet Vines

The 2020 winner is Maeve Croghan, a Virginia native who lives and works in the Mendocino, CA area.

“In a time where there is so much uncertainty, I cannot express how elated and thankful I am for this opportunity,” says Croghan. “It is an amazing feeling to have my work recognized by such a remarkable brand as Georges Duboeuf.”

Maeve’s winning painting, Russett Vines, evokes a sense of timeless appreciation and connection to nature and the vines that give birth to the annual harvest. Using vibrant hues of gold, orange and reds, “I wanted to relay a feeling of warmth and happiness, bringing attention to the beauty and splendor of the vines,” explains Croghan.

Kisses on the Wind

The natural world is what inspires me most— leaves, flowers, rocks and the things of the Earth— but the things I paint are the things of my imagination. I have been fortunate throughout most of my life to live in places where nature serves up inspiration on a daily basis, in all four seasons, and my current home is in eastern Pennsylvania, just a walk away from the majestic, Delaware River. Making art has always the way I make sense of the world for myself and is the place where I feel both grounded and enchanted. Art has super powers like that.

This was my third time entering the Duboeuf Label Contest, my third time as a finalist, and my first time as a winner. So, I guess you might say that the third time is, indeed, the charm!
